about me
Welcome to my blog, my name is Lindsey aka modchik. A former Operations Manager with a strong desire to CREATE. In 2009 I decided my 9-5 job wasn't working for me (or my two kids). I traded my calculator for a camera and began building a blog. By the end of 2010 modchik-photography happened. I have a penchant for good recipes, strong coffee, iPhoneography, mid-century modernism, fashion trends, astrology and Pinterest. I get to talk about all of that here. I promise you'll never be bored.

Hey Girl I Got You This Birthday Card
So today marks yet another successful trip around the sun. After all of these years I can still say that birthdays aren’t getting any easier but the cards are getting way better. I got a card referring to my hotness now comes in the form of a hot flash to handmade cards with photos from friends I have met at camp. And then there was this one that landed on my facebook page. I had to recreate it in Picnik … Continue reading
The Creative Hangover
I have sat down to bang this post out several times over the past few days, each time unsuccessfully. I have come to the same conclusion, conferences, especially creative ones leave me in a state of paradoxical limbo. Do you know what 4 days and 6 hours of surrounding yourself with people who have the same obsession you do for good design will do to a girl? This… When my friend Nicole saw this she immediately inquired “why so easy breezy?” I laughed, I … Continue reading
Bad Carma with a C
I imagined my 11/11/11 day a lot differently than it panned out. In fact my expectation were unusually low. At first pass of 11:11 on 11/11/11 I barely looked up long enough to notice, not even as much as a screen shot of this once in a lifetime time stamp. If you have been reading my blog for a while then you know about my previous encounters What’s So Important About 11:11. I have a thing about 11:11 and here it was … Continue reading
What Signs are You Seeing?
One of the benefits of going to Camp this year was the people I met, one of them Kristin aka mainemomma. Kristin shared a link with us about a 30 day collaborative on Flickr Gratitude Project – 30 Days (open to anyone!) that focuses on one simple idea capture your daily GRATITUDE for the next 30 days. I thought this would be a good way to keep myself level headed on focused on all things GOOD as we head into that (sometimes although … Continue reading
Camp Shutter Sisters | Asilomar
It’s only been 4 days since I was dragged home kicking and screaming from camp and forced to re-enter this life that on a GOOD day can best described as something out of the movie Groundhog Day. In between laundry mountains, looping carpool and a full inbox I have purposely memorialized my trip with editing, scanning and miles of journaling. Everything compiled and stuffed within the pages of my Camp Shutter Sisters book. Last week my friend Chelsea and I drove 400 miles towards … Continue reading
Collective Tears Ten Years Later
These are the posts that I find the hardest too write. How do I express the words in my heart today and every 9/11 anniversary thereafter. As I sit here clutching my tear soaked Kleenex I felt somewhat compelled to watch footage of the tragic tale that unfolded ten years ago today. I don’t want to forget, at least a part of me does not want to forget. I want my children to remember but they were too young and one … Continue reading
Introducing the Trend Tribe
I have been out of my mind busy this past month not only have I been doing some travelling and a tons of photo editing, I decided to completely gut rooms like the kitchen in some sort displaced Spring Cleaning. All that on top of starting a new project, a new blog called the Trend Tribe.  I will be writing pieces like Dump Your Purse, similar to one I dumped here on the modchik last summer and from looking at the contents things haven’t changed much, I still … Continue reading
Week In The Life – Day Six
Yesterday was a day off of some sorts. This one was just blending right into the previous because if you read Day 5 you know that I didn’t turn the lights out until 4:30-ish. You aren’t surprised I overslept and was late to my hair appointment are you. yawn… Look I’m still smiling on 3 hrs of sleep, a double blow dry will do that to me. Checking in on foursquare and leaving a tip about my stylist the fab JP. Next … Continue reading
Week In The Life – Day Four
Here I am, here I am I’m sorry I am so tardy to my own party today. Friday Friday Friday you always throw me off my game. Thursday was a good example of some of great things blogging has brought into my life, like new friendships and opportunities for my family to do fun stuff together like ride Razors that spark up, something the 14 year old thought was better than OK. I told them all day that we would … Continue reading
A Week In The Life – Day Three
It’s now Day 3 and I have found my rhythm with this project, or at least that’s what I tell myself. There is a whole ‘nother component to this Week In The Life Project that I have left out, the worksheet or daily planner. I haven’t been writing in it as much as I should or lets say COULD, removing the self criticism.  I’m writing all day today. I think this was created to help those who go back and turn this … Continue reading
A Week In The Life – Day Two
Ok, so day one of A Week In The Life was pretty much a dry run. I started at 11pm and captured a brief glimpse of what its like at casa modchik when half the house sleeps and the other half work. It was very real, probably too real for the fourteen year old but thankfully he doesn’t read my blog so we’re safe. Yesterday was not so easy. By dinner time my family asked if I would remove ALL … Continue reading
A Week In The Life – Day One
Day One This is a new project for me and it makes me so happy. Its introspective, it’s creative and its all about discovering something new or reaffirming what you already knew and its about sharing those discoveries.  Ali Edwards has been hosting Week In The Life Project annually for a few years now and this time I’m not watching from the sidelines. Each day I photograph and journal my existence and collect those images and thoughts here on my blog so you … Continue reading
