about me
Welcome to my blog, my name is Lindsey aka modchik. A former Operations Manager with a strong desire to CREATE. In 2009 I decided my 9-5 job wasn't working for me (or my two kids). I traded my calculator for a camera and began building a blog. By the end of 2010 modchik-photography happened. I have a penchant for good recipes, strong coffee, iPhoneography, mid-century modernism, fashion trends, astrology and Pinterest. I get to talk about all of that here. I promise you'll never be bored.

the mistake I’ll never make twice
Last week I hit a wall. My life on the computer came to a complete standstill. I filled up drive C:, D:, E: and F: yes I have 4 drives. Evidently that little imaginary hamster inside my desktop decided just to stop running. Darn. That makes it EXTREMELY difficult to do anything. Programs won’t open, email sits in the Outbox and certainly blogs don’t get updated (oops). So I am here to tell ya ….. there’s something else….. the afterlife. Wait no that’s no right that’s a … Continue reading
Camera vs. Capture
I hear the debate all the time. Some if not most photographers will tell you its not important what camera you have. Although the first thing I get asked most frequently is what camera do you use followed by what lens is that? I have to wonder do they attribute photo quality to cost of the camera. My best work has not always come from the most expensive piece of equipment in my bag. Personally I think the focus (pardon my pun) should be … Continue reading
Shoot From The Hip
One way to make your photos stand out from the rest is to shoot from a different perspective.  It can give your photo a completely unique feel and really grabs the viewers eye. When I am shooting in a public place I often get self conscious about aiming directly at people and shooting, I know the public isn’t too thrilled with this either so many times I shoot from the hip, literally. I simply set my camera settings pointing the general vicinity to make sure … Continue reading
Me and My Shadow
Last week when I wrote about reflection and many people interpreted that as shadows, so let’s talk about that.  Similar to the creative inspiration of a reflection,  casted shadows can help you convey all sorts of emotions from drama to playfulness. During the winter months the sun is low in the sky and that creates beautiful long shadows. Next time you are taking photos try to capture not only the subject but a bit of the shadow as well and then … Continue reading
Photo tips | Creative Focus
Many times when we shoot with our auto focus cameras we miss the intended focal point leaving the key element or person blurred.  There is no amount of Photoshop work that can correct that kind of misstep, trust me I have tried. How do you avoid this? Easy. When you are getting ready to take your photo press the shutter release half way and focus on the part of the picture you want to capture, while continuing to keep the shutter button depressed … Continue reading

Growing Your Photo Skills
One thing people ask me all the time is how I developed my photography skills (props for that awesome pun eh?) so I thought I wold start writing a series of posts with Photography Tips. Is it through classes, workshops, seminars, books or e-courses and the answer is all of the above and one other (not so minor) detail … practice. Practice. Practice. Practice.
