Got Gravatar? Inspired by Seth Godin

04.08.10 By Lindsey G 3 Comments

Ever wonder how people get their own custom avatar or icon to appear when they leave a comment on a blog? You want one too?

It’s easy! Go to http://en.gravatar.com and you can sign up and upload your own photo and in minutes you will have your own gravatar. A gravatar (globally recognized avatar) is a way to customize your comments on millions of different sites globally.  The image is small no bigger than 80 px by 80 px but what still an effective way to “brand” yourself. Try it!

I discovered gravatar’s during my blog research  as I was reading Seth Godin’s book Small is the New Big.

This is the book that really started it all for me. For no reason other than I have a fondness (you can say strong attraction) for Kewpie dolls. My daughter was the spitting image of those angelic creatures as a baby, complete with the curl plopped center and forward on her head.I decided to order this book off Amazon sight unseen. I could NOT put it down. A book of snippets about business tips created and compiled by author and marketing trend expert Seth Godin. You may have already have read one of his popular booksThe Purple Cow. Seth’s Small is The New Big effectively brings to light the the obvious and sometime not so obvious reasons why its so important to understand the dynamic of the new business culture today.

I actually met Seth during a local event hosted by LinkedOC that featured his latest book Linchpin. We shared  a quick conversation during his book signing about our mutual admiration of the Kewpie doll, it was kismet I tell you.. just one step further towards the creation of the modchik blog!

A special thanks to Kathleen for capturing this little (HUGE) moment on her iPhone for me and for the shot below with my ‘mini me’ Kewpie I received as a birthday gift. I love her glasses aren’t they so cute?

I can’t say enough about how much Seth’s blog and his books have influenced me. Linchpin is a MUST read for every parent because the future is changing folks and we want our children to succeed!

I’m so happy YOU were on that ‘predetermined’ path 🙂

MODCHIK BLOG (2010-2020)

What began as a blog about an unexpected pregnancy at midlife morphed into a (sometimes) steady stream of private thoughts made public. I've moved from blogs to photography and now astrology. ... more about the journey here.
