Today begins a whole new photo journey for me with the beginning of the 52-week ‘photo centric community’ called, Picture Inspiration from Big Picture Classes. Yours truly will be one of seven moderators among 400+ participants (as of today). I can’t even begin to tell you how thrilled I am to be a part of this series spearheaded by Tracey Clark (shuttersisters).
I started last year with Big Picture Summer and had a somewhat short lived stint on Big Picture Fall but when the Holiday Class class started up I recommitted to the daily prompt and did not skip a beat (or a day literally) rolling right into 2011 with Big Picture Winter, which was my most successful class (for me personally). Relationships formed and alliances were made in January and all of the sudden my photographic network expanded exponentially almost over night. I managed to connect with people all over the country sharing our triumphs over the prompts that we though we just could not do justice. I can not tell you how many times my worst shot ended up the crowd favorite. Its amazing what others can do in terms of seeing things in your own photo that you can’t or just don’t.
Through the discipline and routine of the daily challenges I learned it was just best to relinquish the idea that today was “the day” that I was going to snap that perfect photo, it’s not. That photo doesn’t exist. The photo that will be considered some of your best work won’t be the one you force and stage instead it will be the one that comes out of seemingly nowhere and catches you completely off guard. This is what I look forward to most when I start up a new class. I know days, weeks or even months away that some of my best work is about to surface and I wouldn’t be able to tap into my own creative source without the inspiration from others. This is what I can promise you if you join in a photo community like Picture Inspiration. You will be in awe of the work shared in the galleries, you will have a chance to leave your heartfelt comments beneath the very photo that inspires your next shot. You will also have the chance to chat with other class members and ask questions directly to the moderators including Tracey during her LIVE chat sessions every Thursday. I can’t think of a better way to grow your photographic skills even if you are just wanting to take better pictures for fun.
This class is for EVERYONE and I hope you’ll meet me there! Plus I got a sneak peak today and the layout of the community site is quite swanky, consider it a social network for people who love photography like you!
