Purple Reign at the Forum

04.15.11 By Lindsey G 2 Comments

I am hurting today and I can’t hear a word you just said. Note to self: stash a pair of earplugs in the glove box. I could have used a pair last night, that and some Advil. I think I danced and screamed for two and a half hours straight. I would pay good money for a neck brace too. I really shouldn’t complain complain Prince ten years my senior, can still dance the pants off me (literally and figuratively). Last night was no exception.

Kathleen and I drove up to LA knowing full well that he never goes on stage at the scheduled time, in fact he prefers not to begin until well after dark and play into the wee hours (which I’m going to come back to in a minute).  That just gave us time to find our seats and let that 32 oz. dry aged sirloin we inhaled at craft time to digest. I couldn’t believe how much we ate before the concert but in retrospect you NEED CALORIES for all the tail shaking and getting down because a Prince concert is nothing short of a 2 3 hour DANCE PARTY y’all.

Word to your mother.

I have seen Prince a handful of times, some good seats (Conga Room, 10 feet from the stage) some nosebleeds (Forum 1988) but last night was one of those shows that just remains with you. Until you realize that you missed NINE SONGS.

OMG. We saw him LEAVE the stage, Shelia E. gave away all her drumsticks, the lights came on for Christs sake! By that time he has just finished Peach and already a third of the building left including those perched in the front row. I grabbed Kathleen and ran down the steps thinking how clever we were that we got to see the end of the show 40 feet from the stage. Kathleen’s ears did perk up as we maneuvered back to our car, she was right that was the crowd roaring again. That wasn’t the end of the show. Weep.

As I went to search to get you the setlist (scroll down for complete list) from last night my eyes scrolled down and WIDEND… he had played 3 MORE ENCORES AFTER WE LEFT AT 11:30. My heart sunk I had missed Baby I’m A Star.

Easy solution.

I’m going back on the 23rd. I’ll see you in a week right after I get fitted for my new hearing aid.

May U live 2 C the dawn.

That set list is insane and that combo photo – dang girl. Countdown clock is in full swing for Round Two. Anxiously awaiting The Beautiful Ones. Closing this comment with an open note to Prince, Be Prepared.
