Its a new month today can you believe it? May already. I can barely grasp the idea that I am already LATE getting on the summer camp bandwagon. What to do what to do it’s hard when you have to to plan activities for two kids that are almost a decade apart. The youngest probably will go to a kindergarten readiness camp in July, although I’m pretty sure spending the last 2 years in preschool full-time has more than prepared her for September. I’m always sad to see the hard core regiment of kindergarten crush the careless days of paint, paste and pour. Both of my kids are artistic almost to the point that they would rather give up cartoon time for crafting. I’m going to try to hold them to that for as long as I can. I know I haven’t been posting very frequently as you’d like and I seem to recall as we head into the summer months blogs tend to get even quieter when the kids are out and suitcases are being dusted off. I’m hoping that’s not the case (the lack of blog posts) and looking forward to some potential projects finally coming to fruition in May. I just finished up my presentation for Bloggy Boot Camp. Remember when I started this whole modchik project and put myself on a plane to attend Boot Camp last April? Well things have finally come full circle and here I am packing up to speak about photography this week in Boston with some of my favorite bloggers including Amy B Hole and Katja. My family is originally from Massachusetts so being back there makes me feel at home, no matter how many years its been. I can almost taste the chowdah now.
In 2 weeks I get to immerse myself in all things wedding photography with a coveted spot all day workshop hosted by one of local super star photographers Jasmine Star. I have been asked to be a backup shooter at a couple weddings this summer so I decided to enroll in her workshop to see if I can figure out some sort of niche photography in the area of weddings, with my love for food photography and styling I’m thinking there has to be something there that I can hone in on. I am very excited and nervous because I will be shooting along some very seasoned photographers. I’ll have to do my best and let it all soak in. To get me somewhat prepared I watched Jasmine’s LIVE workshop on creativeLIVE, have you heard of this site? It steams live workshops – IT IS SOOOO COOL I just pulled it up right now and I’m watching via Ustream Zach Arias talk about his celebrity portraits. I’m VERY excited because one of my favorite food photographers Penny De Los Santos is coming on May 13, 14 & 15th. The great thing is if you can’t be there to watch the 3 days of footage love you can purchase the entire course and keep it in a personal library so you can watch it online when you want. Neat huh? If you missed Jasmine I did find a very comprehensive recap on her workshop on a photo blog out of the UK.
Speaking of photography I have all but ditched my big camera lately and it feels, well different. My iPhone continues to bring me so much creative freedom I love love love it. I just backuped (is that even a word?) my April photos all 1300 of them, yes I realize that’s a lot of iphotos. I hope my 5D isn’t the jealous type and decide to act up during the workshop. I am even thinking of leaving it home when I go to Boston (shhhhhhhhh… don’t say a word) oh wait a minute I can’t, I forgot I have to shoot at the party Friday night. Moving on…. if you want to know the latest come join me on instagram you know my handle right? yep… modchik If you don’t have an iPhone (I know they are developing an Android app) you can see what’s ‘popular’ right now on insta-great! <– click to see my photos. I was featured on the infamous popular this week with my 747 shot out of a sunroof (not moving). I promise I’ll explain later. It was cool!
Have a great week I need to go practice my presentation and figure out what not to wear.
