The Dragonfly Shops & Garden

08.25.11 By Lindsey G 3 Comments

I have a confession to make, I didn’t sign my kids up for one thing this summer and I’m paying dearly for it, lesson learned. If I just took a moment to explore my own backyard I could have had her in art classes at the Dragonfly Shops & Gardens. If you live in Orange County you have probably heard of historical Orange commonly known as The Orange Circle. Photographers know the circle well, its a frequent hot spot for portrait sessions and surrounded by all sorts of restaurants and shops that provide very color backdrops.

Last Saturday my 5 yr old and I were invited by Kara Noel of ElisLids to a taping for OCFamilyTV at a Fairy Garden party at the Dragonfly shop. I have driven by this place a few times and how I never actually made it in is beyond me, it has all my favorite stuff beautiful brightly colored ceramics, succulents, scarves, beads, jewelry all from local artists and its all packed into this adorable 1920s renovated bungalow. You have to check it out to really get a feel for HOW MUCH there is inside.

Owner Beth Davidson, was a professional recruiter for 20 years and much like me her right brain craved something to do and for her the solution was beads, she quickly became known as the ‘bead lady’ of Villa Park. Her ‘need to bead‘ spawned into classes and eventually an entire home turned shop that welcomed local artists and showcased one of a kind pieces for her rapidly expanding clientele.

Today the Dragonfly Shops & Garden offer classes including the one my daughter and I sat in on called Make Your Own Fairy Garden. Each child painted, filled, planted, decorated and of course sprinkled with a good dose of fairy dust in hopes that fairies might move in to their new fairy homes. It was adorable and the mini living garden Super A took home is proudly displayed in our kitchen window.

more purple fairy dust please!!

What began as a blog about an unexpected pregnancy at midlife morphed into a (sometimes) steady stream of private thoughts made public. I've moved from blogs to photography and now astrology. ... more about the journey here.
