In two days I leave for the mother of all blogging conferences, BlogHer. I actually had a ticket for last years event in NYC and became completely anxiety ridden over the thought of taking a family vacation 5000 miles away in Boston the week before, then trying to turn and burn it back to NYC alone. I had no problem ditching that ticket anyway, one PayPal email later and I was officially still a BlogHer virgin.
I’m pretty sure I bought this years ticket the actual day it was released. There was no way I was missing a BlogHer in my own backyard.
So here I am, I leave tomorrow at o’dark hundred. I still have NO CLUE what to expect. I know I will be overwhelmed. I know I will be excited I know I will be over stimulated and I know that I will at some point go run and hide with a latte in the corner sucking my thumb. Part of my prep is to research and read up. I steer clear of the imploding blogger stories and party hashtag wars (don’t ask) and try to glean the necessary stuff from articles like how to stay sane at blogher. I want the Cliff Notes version, how much walking is involved, are we talking Aersoles or moderate wedge? More importantly how many outfit changes are involved and what are people wearing? Which frankly people can I be honest here? I really don’t care what others are wearing, you’re talking to a girl who wore a hat like the one they wore in the B52’s video Song For A Future Generation and painted my Bass weejun penny loafers purple just because. Before there was photography my creative outlet was makeup and fashion.
Ok, this 1970-something photo speaks volumes. See that yellow Kodak box I’m almost standing on? Thats my first instamatic camera, look at me I’m too enamoured with my new rust velour top and Chemin De Fer jeans to even care. Thirty years later I may choose a lens over a new wardrobe. Maybe. I have put some thought into what I am wearing because I need to dress for endurance. I want to be comfortable and stylish and classic and pretty, is that so wrong? All things considered I knew I needed at least 3 outfits, and some pieces that can pull a little double duty in case I find myself being dragged to a late night party or two. My feet are actually swelling at the thought of all the standing I will be doing. I wish compression socks were in right now. Compression socks and a snuggie.
Since neither one of those things are acceptable conference I hit a few of my favorite fashion blogs to find out what is. I do like to keep up with what’s current.
On The Zoe Report she talks about the new basics, the slouchy tee is a tough oe for me to
pull off. She suggested alternating between a wide leg and skinny jean. I do love my Hidden Hills, (right) but I did buy another another pair, Skyline also by Paige because a) I saved $80 (Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale) and b) they are the best fitting jean, say it with me butt-crack is whack. Now that I look at photos of them I think I just bought the same pant in a different wash. OK, As a former employee let me tell you the Norsdtrom Half-Yearly Sale is the best deal, incoming seasonal items marked down around 40% in most cases. Fashionably speaking more bag or should I say bag for BUCK. I also picked up a pair of flats from Attilio Giusti Leombruni that I have been wanting for a long time, a flat I was told NEVER goes on sale either. SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also spend a little more time then I should on shopstyle.com – you can type in green striped maxi dress and within seconds you’ll a page full of options. One click shopping. I also recently discovered Trend Accessories and Nordstrom.
Here’s a snap shot of EXACTLY what I’m wearing – so if you are going you’ll be able to better spot me in the sea of people, 3500 people maybe not at least look for the glasses!
Anthropologie Drapey Bubble Shirt (green) | 31Bits Sunkissed necklace | Anthro Slouched Raglan Scoopneck (white) | Franco Sarto wedge sandals | Skyline By Paige denim | Express Striped Knit Top | Harlow Black Leather necklace.

Hey, I didn’t even notice I was in that shot until I zoomed-in on your posting. What a trip! I remember that wool robe I was wearing as I was always so darn cold in the mornings. I think that your Xmas shot was
taken circa 1975 or maybe 1977. I lived with you and the family from Feb. 1977 until I moved out that summer to slum it with a boyfriend in San Clemente working as a cocktail waitress at The Whistle Stop Inn! Oh yeah, made some serious cash tips but had to loose a chunk of change when I accidently bashed a girls car in Laguna Beach (serious sun-glare issue). I never did like you in the “Dorothy Hamill” look, but you were always ready to go do something fun with your pals at that age. That I do recall!
