What would you do if you had more free time?
Most of you will probably laugh at that question. Its almost like I asking what would you do with a million dollars. This question was posed to the reader in one of my favorite self exploration journals 40 Days and 40 Nights, by Ilene Segalove. If you really want to dig deeper into the your personal self you must check out that book.
When you start to think about the things you would do if you gave yourself permission you begin to wonder how many constraints have we put on ourselves or have let others put on us. Many of us, myself included, are mothers and we all know that those little people consume most if not all of our time. We have to carve time for ourselves, we can’t create more than what we have 24 hours every day. What part of that 24 hours do you have? Any of it? A few hours late at night? What if you were give a block of free time to do whatever it was you wanted, what would you do?
My free time would be spent traveling. I would get in my car with my camera and just drive. I love being alone in the car with my music and my thoughts. I would drive somewhere and allow myself as much time as I needed to explore. Fellow photogs will appreciate that wish. Often when I am with others I just want to break off and venture out on my own just so I don’t feel rushed to enjoy the moment or try to hastily make few photographs. Great photographs take time. I need that time to “see” that photo before I attempt to recreate it something that I am hardly afforded as I rush through my life.
In yesterdays prompt I almost called 2011 a “blur” because it went by so quickly. Time is definitely speeding up. I am fascinated with the idea the observation that time actually speeds up as you get older. I can feel it as every year seems to go by faster than the last and it scares me. I want to get more out of my life, I don’t want to waste what time there is left. I want to squeeze everything I possibly can out of every minute of the day. To me that’s a life well lived.
Now I give the mic over to you, what would you do with your free time?
