What’s on your Vision Board for 2012?
You may not know this about me but I am a firm believer in the power of manifestation. If you see it you can become it is one of my mottos. I do this for practically everything. My mom texts on her second leg of of traveling stand by.
Husband grumbles as we pull into a crowded parking lot, I tell him no problem I’m visualizing us parked, within seconds reverse lights, we’re in. Yes those are trivial examples but you can adopt this method for the everyday as well as the BIG life changing stuff too.
I made a large format vision board this year that sits on a ledge shelf. The only problem is I have to look behind me to see it which kind of defeats the purpose. I have 4 large cork boards that I picked up at Container store and they also act as not only a collector of receipts, photos and mementos but images of people place and things I would like to attract into my life. I can pin and repin as often as I like. For my poster sized vision board I am gluing new things right in top of the one’s that have materialized. Its a very cool feeling.
What did I cover over? (and trust me when I say it was hard to paste over Dave’s mug) …
2011: Dave Grohl. I don’t recall having thought that placing the front man of the Foo Fighters would somehow turn into a press pass and 20 minutes of uninterrupted prime shooting time but it did. I think all I wanted was the opportunity to see him from front row again. I have met him briefly in an elevator once. A couple months ago I was granted a press pass for a trend tribe article and shot over 500 photos of the band while they played the Forum. Although the photos technically belong to the band, yes this is the trade off for press access, I have snuck a few here and there on the site. I am dying to sit down and send them my favorites, something on my 2012 list. the game you play I recently printed out this wide angle shot I took as we were being escorted out of the building (photogs must leave the premises and reenter with tickets). Its 13×19 and you just have to see it in person to see how luscious this print is in all its saturated rock n’ roll goodness.
2012: published photobook
2011: the Duran Duran album: Oh this pained me too, I want to see more of them and I hope covering them on my vision board doesn’t deter fate. Again another surreal moment, not only photographing the boys while they played San Diego Valley Center but meeting them in Las Vegas.
2012: Street Photography
2011: Prince: Although I didn’t get to photograph this enigma I was sure close enough when he played the Forum. That’s the purple piano he played while Kathleen and I squealed like teenagers inches away from his snare drum tight booty in our faces. VIP stage side was enough to say I finally realized this vision, I have had this particular photo on my board for many years. Another part of this was about the Opus book, I finally wanted to have this illusive book in my hot little hands.
2012: Financial resolve. If you knew how much either of the above costs you understand how appropriate and much needed are the images of financial responsibly. I think, no I know those days of the frivolousness in my spending are over, they were fun while they lasted.
I have added an image I found in the latest Oprah magazine of a butterfly breaking through shards of glass. The article was by Life Coach Martha Beck (love her column) and talked about people who get what they want make it a point to know what they want. I think that pretty much sums up what I want for 2012, to know what it is I want. This year I found that “trying on” everything was a good exercise in stretching but it was exhausting and sometimes had me feeling like I was going in circles. Next year I want to move forward with purpose and direction and I want my vision board to reflect that.
Take the time this holiday weekend to go through your stacks of magazines, you’ll catch up on some reading time as well as cull together a collection of images you would like to bring into your life. Place them on anything a fridge door, a corkboard a piece of construction paper, I promise your brain will understand kick into gear affecting your day to day decisions that will help you attain just that very thing. Try and let me know how it works for you.
I would love to see your vision board – link up if you have a photo (on flick) or on your blog!
