“All the cool kids are doing it” that’s what super user Seacannon said this morning on Instagram as he uploaded his first slideshow slash video. Instagrammers have been waiting for this update, as this lets you edit the heck out of your video and dub over that annoying and wind noise and upload into Instagram. For those who want to stick with shooting in Instagram only you may want to check this video quick fix for video camera using sticky back using furry tape, I can’t see why they wouldn’t work with your phone. Or maybe you like the wind noise.I wanted to make a slideshow using my images from the past two years. I was looking to see if I could somehow capture the evolution of my photos. I cringe when I look back at my first year, overly processed and tinged red, was anyone else as obsessed as I was with that Toaster filter? Yikes. How quickly everything improved with the release of photo power apps like SnapSeed and vscocam There are tons of video editing apps out there, ios video apps, but if you just want to make a great montage with 15 seconds of photos that you can upload to Instagram then Flipagram is your app. *updated post is here
For .99 cents you can grab your Instagram photos and arrange them into a nice little montage, add a custom title and choose a soundtrack and viola!
Create a flip in 4 easy steps:
1. Select the photos for your video.
2. Sort them in the order you like.
3. Refine your video by adding a title, soundtrack, and adjusting it’s speed.
4. Save it to your camera roll or share it with friends and family via email, Facebook, or YouTube!
Tips When Using Flipagram
Decide FIRST where you are sharing your video; Instagram, YouTube or Facebook. This will make the difference in how many photos you choose. I started with 101 photos and ended up with a video that was 44 seconds long. You can upload the longer ones to YouTube. They appear like this:
Sign in with Instagram
and sync your account. Flipagram does not allow you to pull images from your Camera roll.
Create a video
Once you have created one you can access them in the Library section of the app in case you want to share later. A copy is also saved on your Camera Roll.
Select photos by tapping on them
*TiP* Decide where you are sharing this – if you want the full length for YouTube or Facebook the amount of photos that will fit is dependent on how quickly they change. I created one with 101 photos/ 5 sec rate and it was 44 seconds.
*Tip* Photos are placed in the order you tap them so if you want to show the oldest first, scroll all the way to your first photos on Instagram and start choosing there.
Leave as is or if you don’t like the order just hold down and drag photos to move them.
Adjust the speed, add a title or maybe a little soundtrack
*Tip* Think about that first photo and how it will look as your title slide. Scroll down to change the font of the title and adjust how long the title slide shows for (I totally missed this feature.)
A note about music you will find some songs have a Copyright tag, just move on and choose another. I also spend an incredibly long amount of time going back and forth on sampling eleventy billion songs and the app crashed and I had to start over. I think we can blame the user on that one.
Save and share
For sharing on Instagram choose Save to Camera Roll.
Open Instagram, choose the video from your Library.
( a 44 seconds is going to have to be trimmed down by half)
You can shorted your video and start it at a different point to make it fit within the 15 sec time frame. At this point hit the Next button give you video a caption and choose where else you would like to post it. Then, hit share and then be patient, I did experience a crash the first time. If it happens no biggie you still have your copy on our Camera Roll. Second time I uploaded it no problems. Uploading to YouTube was fast and easy. Here is the 22 second version, I ended up trimming it within the Instagram app.
Notes from iTunes: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.
Have fun this weekend. Get out there and share!
