Past the Orange Curtain // Week 3

01.21.14 By Lindsey G 9 Comments

Introducing a new series I’m calling Life in Session. I have been wanting to do a recap series for a long time and after two failed attempts at a 365 project I felt it was time to try something like Tracy’s Everyday Life on Shutterbean. She always has her week nicely wrapped up in a post full of honest glimpses into her chevron stripped Tabasco fueled world. I’m a few weeks behind but who’s counting. So from now on, on Monday, perhaps late Sunday if I’m feeling a bit excited or God forbid  Tuesday at 11:00 pm, if you had the kind of Monday like I did (sick kid, even sicker cat.) Yeah that. I’m aiming to share the good the bad the ugly. The cliff note version will be at the end, check for links, bookmarks and maybe a few pins.

“Life is what happens when we are busy making other plans” – John Lennon

John Lennon understood what the universe already has shown us, that life continues to unfold whether you are a willing participant or not. Choose to give up the struggle, well then my friend you just aren’t living. Deep thoughts for a Tuesday.

We had a week of record temps. With that came just one brush fire, a couple earthquakes (we tend to get those when we have this type of weather) and glorious sunsets back to back each night. As I left my office just at sundown I captured the array of colors, its that purple that just kills me! Can you see the girl at the computer?

I walked around my house and photographed every room, every corner just AS IS. This is my bathroom above, the least offensive of the bunch. I still fantasize about a home remodel, 14 years after move in.

I had 10 minutes while I waited to meet my sister for dinner. This kiosk was just beautiful, I’m not sure how I walked away without the white one.

This isn’t a mistake. I took this photo of the constellation Gemini on my phone. My PHONE people!! Every night was star gazing night as long as the Santa Ana winds kept blowing. I used the app SkyView to check out everything from planets to floating space junk (even the universe has clutter HA!)I could also see with my eyes a nebula in the constellation of Taurus, the app identified it as NGC1555. This nebula is home to the original T Tauri star for which all other of its kind are named after. Its considered a baby at 1 million years old. Its also 460 light years away (2,698,220,160,000,000 miles). Marinade in that for a while brain.  I really need to get to an observatory with some high powered cameras. Let’s make room for that on the list.

They had wine samples at Whole Foods. I met Steve McClean of MccLean X Vineyard and couldn’t leave without cab blend. Bonus, this one has a low alcohol content. I know that sounds contradictory but my heart does not tolerate alcohol, mostly all with the exception of Vueve and the occasional ale. I shared the bottle with a friend and her new puppy. Twas a good impromptu night.

Our bearded dragon, Chompers woke up right one time from his long Winter’s nap (9/15/13 – 1/19/14) I’m glad someone checked or he might be still covered in there.

Sunday funday, we had a date with my SIL to meet up at American Girl Place in the Grove. While driving along La Brea I whipped a uey and snapped the Einstein mural (I later Googled it here is the artist eduardo kobra) Its really great, I snapped a photo with my 5D, iPhone, Instax AND the SLR680 Polaroid.

Made it to AG and couldn’t believe how adorable and sweet and innocent this place was. I just wanted to walk around and hug all the mothers who were encouraging there daughters to embrace all that good in this world, dolls that come in every color dressed in age appropriate clothing with hobbies like, ballet, sewing and journalism! I had been putting this purchase off, due to cost but this was the only thing on her Santa list.

Lunch in the cafe, you just HAVE to do this. Food was better than expected, its a prefixed price, you chose the entrée, I recommend the roasted vegetable panini. Everyone gets the cute dessert plate with tea cakes, sugar cookies and mousse. Each table has rolled napkins secured by elastic pink ties you can take with you.

Someone asked to use my phone. I love her finger in the shot.

I have so many photos, I may just have to squeeze in an extra post about American Girl.

The trolley at the Grove because um…. who needs to walk? I dunno… ME maybe? especially after Dylan’s Candy bar. I tried to get the Grove sign but for some reason all my photos have a horizon line that likes to dip right. My trolley is leaning. Harumph!

140119_005_Succulant-Edit

Succulent terrarium. I just could NOT say no. This little gem now lives in my kitchen windowsill. Instructions read: 10 sprays per week.

I ate: Cucina Enoteca // I drank: MccLean X Vineyard – Clemence Cab $24 Whole Foods //  I visited: American Girl Place (LA) // I shopped the Grove bought this cute Market Needs Magnetic Pad and my favorite hobnail Simpatico candle in Marine I ogled this bag and tried to figure out why it was $325. // I (re)discovered Clodhoppers and dark chocolate haystacks, probably my TWO FAVORITE candies in the world @ Dylan’s Candy Bar // I bought: succulent terrarium from Dewy Flowers stand at the Grove (across from Dylan’s Candy Bar) // I took a Polaroid of: Einstein on LA Brea.

I don’t know where my reply went to you Angie but I was saying YOU MUST JUMP back in with me, I too feel like I haven’t done this in forever. I miss our Big Class community, we can start a little branch division sharing our weeks.

LOVE this post! It’s so great to get a glimpse into your life and your mind :). I’m currently drooling over the Einstein mural and putting a succulent terrarium on my “to buy” list.

Thanks Deb… we’ll see if you still like the glimpse when I have a dull week, ha! So when I Googled the mural I also discovered one of my collab artists (Mac and Retna) had a piece up just a few miles AWAY, kicking myself. Remember the one I shot on film for the muses theme Around Me? Same guy http://mortalmuses.com/2013/02/27/march-theme-around-me/

Great idea. I cannot stick to my 365 either. Ever. Even once a week is tough for me lol I will truly enjoy you sharing your weeks though! 🙂 I haven’t blogged in ages. So tempting to join in. But as usual, I am late to the game. Rats!

You had a fun week. Your daughter is so adorable. What a cutie. She must love being in your blog header.

I love your big bathroom, nice tub. I also have some succulents. not in those pretty terrarium’s though. I was told that they die if you water them too much, two died this past Summer with me.

    🙂

I think you should DEFINITELY join in – what RULES?!? There are no stinking rules. Maybe we go 3rd week of January to 3rd week of January 2015. Its going to force me to be better at getting everything off the card and onto the computer as well as fast editing. No more tweaking for hours so it looks all cool….. blargh! I even included one where the flash went off so you could see our lizard, that is just straight up ugly but who cares 😀 — and yes not much water and lots of sun I have many succulents, including these monster Agave which you should see if I can keep up this weekly project. Eh? Thank you for being a sounding board its nice to know that people I know and mutually admire take the time to come and read what I put out there, and PS Ava for the most part doesnt want to be photographed, she’s either IN or get out of here with your camera. That header shot? I promised chocolate in return for a few shots in that alley. #truth

Love love love this idea, and the kernel of acceptance within it that our lives are good enough, exactly as they are. Good enough to be documented, to be savored. Thanks for the reminder and the inspiration. xo

It’s all in the name of documentation, I am also starting a Project Life book for 2014 so I figure I’m half way there if I can get the photos taken, edited and uploaded. Of course there is also the printing and trimming that goes along with it, I may have bitten off more than I can chew.
